NHB Conditioning's performance philosophy can be summed up in an age old phrase: “Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.”
In an age when there is a tendency to look for “quick-fixes” and a quest for the “super pill” or supplement that will magically improve
performance with little or no added effort that phrase rings even more true. Hard work, dedication, intensity and integrity will lead to a true champion.
The core of our training philosophy is the marriage of the SAID (Specific Adaptation to Implied Demand) principle with Biomechanical
and Bioenergetic analysis of each individuals sport or activity. This leads to training that is functional, sport specific, and proven.
There are three core stages of training which are essential to achieving optimum performance. Much like building a solid structure
building a solid athlete requires that a solid foundation must be laid. This is done through General Physical Preparedness Training (GPP).
Through the GPP Phase of training NHB Conditioning staff will work with the athlete to develop proper movement patterns and correct any
bad habits which would lead to injury and decreased performance if left unaddressed, build a base of strength and coordination so that
the athlete can successfully move on to more demanding exercise prescriptions, and develop a solid base of both aerobic and anaerobic fitness.
The next stage of athlete development is Sport Specific Preparedness (SSP). Following the house analogy this is much like the framing and
wiring stage. During the SSP phase NHB Conditioning Staff will work with the athletes to develop required Sport Specific attributes such
as lateral mobility, explosive power, and isolateral movement patterns.
The final core stage of athlete development is Athlete Specific Preparedness (ASP). This is the stage where the athlete is individually
assessed and any weaknesses are addressed, much like the finishing and final inspection of a new building. The ASP phase takes the well
developed athlete and catapults them to the next level of performance. As this phase is individualized in every way the focus of this phase for
the athlete will vary as much as each athlete does. What will not change is the dedication and individual attention each athlete will receive and
the explosive burst of confidence and performance they will achieve.
